During the evening of October 28th, we were warmly welcomed by principal Todd Dreifort and members of the Chaparral High School Community as we gave a presentation called “I Love My Children, But… How Parents Can Minimize Liability Caused by Acts of Their Adolescent Children.” We covered some of the more common sources of parental liability for the conduct of minor children, including underage drinking, the circumstances under which parents may be liable for their children’s negligent driving, and liability of parents for intentional acts of their children (for example, assault and shoplifting/theft). We also discussed the best ways for parents to insure for their own liability for the tortious conduct of their children.
It is our hope that by discussing the most common sources of parental liability for the conduct of our children, parents will engage in those difficult yet vitally important discussions with their children to minimize the risk of harm to themselves and others.
Thank you Mr. Dreifort and the entire Chaparral High School Community! We enjoyed interacting with those in attendance and look forward to doing so once again (but next time, not on the night of the Cardinals/Packers football game!).
